The long awaited day has finally arrived.
Sherlock Series Three will air in the UK from January 1 2014.
With a suitable degree of theatricality, the BBC today confirmed the premiere airdate for Sherlock Series Three in the UK through the medium of an empty hearse, flowers announcing the date that the Great Detective will return to life and grace our screens once again.
Touring the streets of London, and taking in several famous locations from the series on the way, the hearse has spent the morning making its way around the capital.
Following the reveal of the hearse itself, the BBC confirmed to us the full airdates for the entire series, including the revelation that UK viewers will see two episodes within a week.
The exact times for broadcast are currently unknown. The BBC are set to confirm scheduling for their festive programming from December 4 2013.
In addition, S3E1: The Empty Hearse will be screened in advance for the press and lucky members of the public at the BFI in London on December 15 2013. We can confirm that we'll be attending that screening, and will be publishing a completely spoiler-free review and details on the accompanying cast and crew Q&A afterwards - as well as some exciting unseen content and exclusive photography after the new series has aired.
